Sony Xperia M2 Aqua brings waterproof to the mid-range market

Looks like Sony was the first to ask the question: why should you have to pay half a grand for a smartphone that’s waterproof? Thankfully they’ve introduced an affordable, capable option to market that’ll net you a good looking smartphone with decent internals. It’s the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua, and it’s not going to change your smartphone life — it’s run of the mill through and through — but should be able to fit any modest needs.

Featured inside is a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 chipset, 1GB of RAM, a 4.8 inch 960 x 540 display, 8GB of internal storage w/ microSD, an 8 megapixel rear camera, 1.1 megapixel front camera, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, aGPS, a 2,330 mAh battery and Android 4.4. KitKat. On top of that KitKat is a good helping of Sony’s custom user experience, which features Battery Stamina mode, social camera features and more.

So when and where? Latin America, Asia Pacific and Europe for starters, and Sony’s only given us a “Fall” timeline to look forward to. That means folks in North America will have to import from afar to get in on the fun, though we imagine some of you would sooner find better options in your own backyards (especially once Sony reveals their latest wares at IFA Berlin).
